Fernando Serna was born in NYC in 1954 to Colombian parents. He became a monk in 1981 and was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1986. He became an abbot in 1991 at the age of thirty-seven. For reasons of conscience he departed the monastic life and the Catholic priesthood in 2010. Fernando says, "My spiritual liberation was the result of arriving at a deep experience of a simple and profound truth: the only thing that really matters is God’s unconditional love for me and my need to live obediently and faithfully as a disciple of Jesus." At the age of 58 he married Gisela, the love of his life. They currently reside in Portland, OR where Fernando serves as an Anglican priest and spiritual director. He blogs at http://fernandoserna.net
